Going back a little bit, I first tried setting up my very first online business in 2023.
I’m from Canada and I used to be stuck in the corporate rat race just like a lot of people.
I started working as a live transfer coordinator for an auto and mortgage brokerage back in 2018.
And after 5 years of mostly hard persuasion and selling 6 days a week and sometimes 10 hours a day, I had a moment of pause.
Because of my debilitating anxiety from childhood that got me extensively bullied and left me traumatized, I tried to avoid working a job that asked me to “suck it up” and sell at the cost of triggering myself.
But in 2018, I left home in Montreal as a 23-year-old with incredibly low self-esteem just to prove that I am worthy of success despite my anxiety disorder.
So, I decided to move to Calgary and to make ends meet, I had no choice but to work for the firm I mentioned earlier.
I was happy to find a job and to my surprise, I started performing well in no time.
8 months in, I realized that in fact, I wasn’t happy. I had just become complacent sacrificing who I was to get that paycheck every two weeks.
I started looking for another job but each one of them expected me to meet more challenging “targets”, so I quit the idea of quitting altogether for a few years.
I signed up for therapy and fast forward to 2023, I realized that my paychecks were evaporating like water in a hot desert.
Post pandemic, Canada was already going through a major affordability crisis and as someone who loves saving, I practically stopped saving anything.
I couldn’t even afford therapy anymore plus my mental health was at its lowest.
So, returning to the moment of pause, I decided to start an online business in hopes of no longer living paycheck to paycheck.
To get some time freedom, fulfil my passion of travelling but most importantly, to heal.
I invested much of what I had saved in my initial years in Calgary in a $2000 course that taught people to build a successful digital marketing agency in 21 days or less.
Just by the sound of it, it was too good to be true and I was naïve. Have you ever found yourself in a similar situation?
The entire program was based around asking me to crush my soul by mainly focusing on hard selling my agency. By posting on social media day in and day out.
I would also send about 100 DMs everyday to different companies asking if they needed the marketing skills of a novice to help them “make profit” only to mostly receive a big fat NO as a response!
Yes, I got a few interested clients here and there but after the initial zoom call, guess what, it was radio silence!
And every time I brought it up to my coach, he would simply tell me to change my strategy and keep trying and selling. Can you relate to that?
The last thing I wanted was to poke my anxiety even at home after an excruciating day of work begging people for business like a headless chicken with no direction.
But here I was, still doing it!
Simply because I desperately wanted to leave my toxic job but more so, the hustle in general.
At this point, I had even considered saying bye to my employer without a backup plan.
But then a sinking feeling of not being able to pay my bills crept in. Have you ever felt that?
Yes, that was me. Miserable and helpless.
I desperately craved the freedom to no longer worry about waking up with dread for the next 30 to 40 years.
I didn’t wish to be forever stuck living in a hamster wheel with no way out.
That desire was essentially rooted in me wanting to regain my self-confidence. I used to always dream about having the ability to constantly write my own six to seven-figure paycheck.
Which would heal my childhood trauma that said I couldn’t make it in life.
Hence, I spent hours for about a year building and trying to scale my marketing agency.
I crafted many stellar posts with the correct messaging and used the “right” tools yet didn’t make a single sale.
By this point, I was crying myself to sleep every night so one day, I just gave up.
But I didn’t stop thinking to myself that there’s got to be a way to build an online business that did not feel like another excruciating job.
Something that wouldn’t suck the soul out of me and would generate the income I wanted in no time.

I am becoming better at coping with my anxiety.
I can now travel whenever and wherever I want.
I finally have uninterrupted time living life and not rushing things for once.
But most importantly, I have time to myself which I never really experienced before.
I’m no longer doing something that feels like a full-time performance.
I work on my own schedule and as much or as little as I want.
And now more than ever, I feel safe, seen and enough in my own skin.
It may sound dramatic, but it genuinely feels like I’ve gotten a second life.
And I wish everybody could have the peace of mind like I do now.
